Seeking Roots Wellness is not your average massage clinic

"Here at SRW, my goal is to help those who have been suffering with chronic long-term pain for years, find long lasting relief."

Are you:

  • Experiencing chronic stress and pain in your body?
  • Tired of the treatments that don't work?
  • Discouraged by health care professionals that don't listen to you and gloss over your pain, telling you it's all in your head?
  • READY for a comprehensive action plan that gives you long- lasting relief, typical massage or passive therapy can not give you?

I recognize that your pain carries an important message.

Where other health professionals have already done everything in the book to silence and suppress your pain, I have the unique ability to help you hear, perhaps for the first time, the important message carried in your pain. By learning how to honor this message, you will discover new and unexpected possibilities for your wellness.

My name is Lana Cummings, and I'm so glad we've found each other.

Very early on in my career, it became clear to me that typical massage therapy does not offer the clarity or support that chronic pain patients need. Today, as an RMT & Exercise Coach I can offer you an amazing massage and exercise treatment plan that will teach you how to pivot out of your pain and stress and and enjoy a pain-free life of comfort and ease.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN A TREATMENT PLAN?

Treatment plans are created for every client that comes in, whether they want long-term relief from chronic pain or short term relief, like relaxation.

Once your health care goals are determined, recommendations will be given at the end of each session with regards to homecare, frequency of sessions and length of session and they are based on the treatment given that day.

All sessions include:

  • Assessments/Re-assessments
  • Clinical Massage Therapy (which can include the typical general Swedish massage/relaxation and/or non-Swedish massage techniques)
  • Homecare (stretches, exercises or self-care).
  • Treatment Plan Recommendations (when to reschedule, how long to book, short-term goals)

The exercises are given for for continued care in between sessions. These exercises are designed to sustain you until the next session. It is up to you to complete the homecare as suggested to achieve your long-term health goals.

Late Cancellations & No-Shows

I do my very best to be on time and prepared for your appointment. I ask that you do the same. Please respect my time and the time of other clients by being on time for your session and book all appointments when you know you will be available. Please do not book if you are on-call or if you may possibly be called into work or called away. If you are late for your appointment, the treatment will end at the original time allotted.

All cancellations must be made 18 hours before your appointment time. Any late cancellations or no shows less than 18 hours before your appointment, will be charged a 100% cancellation fee

The cancellation policy also applies to rescheduled appointments. Once an appointment is rescheduled (for any reason), the cancellation policy is then in place for that appointment and 18 hours notice is required. If the appointment was rescheduled within the 18 hour time frame it is then considered confirmed and any last minute cancellation will be subject to the cancellation fee, exceptions being within the first hour after rescheduling.

Otherwise, true emergencies are the exception. If you begin to feel sick the evening before your appointment, please text me as soon as possible at 416-346-7607 to let me know you won't be coming in for your appointment the next day due to sickness. No charges will be applied in this case. Forgetting your appointment or late cancellations due to scheduling conflicts will be charged the 100% cancellation fee. After 3 late cancellations or no-shows, you will be discharged and no longer able to book appointments.

As the practitioner, I alone will determine the charges applied per cancellation and I reserve the right to make changes to the cancellation policy at any time and for any reason. All changes will be posted on this site.

COVID-19 Policy

The clinic space will be cleaned and sanitized according to public health protocols for RMT's prior to each appoinment. Masks are never required for healthy clients or practitioners, but you are welcome to wear one if you chose. If you have any cold or flu symptoms and your appointment is within the first 48 of the onset of symptoms, please reschedule your appointment, as masks may not be worn as an alternative. If you are immunocompromised and need any further precautions, please let me know before the day of your appointment. You are not required to share your vaccine status with me, however, I may ask about it if you are showing signs of vaccine reaction/complications when we discuss your health history. This is only to give you the appropriate treatment or recommendations and will be charted as such. This information will not be shared with anyone unless I have your expressed written consent.

DO I NEED A DOCTOR'S REFERRAL?

No. You can book directly with me, no referral needed. Some insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement though, so check with your provider before your first visit if you plan to claim it.

WILL MY INSURANCE COVER THIS?

Most extended health plans in Canada cover Registered Massage Therapy. Coverage amounts and rules vary by plan, so check yours for the details. I'll give you a receipt with my registration number after every session so you can submit it.

DO YOU DO DIRECT BILLING?

Yes, but only with Blue Cross right now. If you have Blue Cross, bring your policy number and ID number to your first appointment (or add them to your intake form) and I'll bill them directly. For all other insurers, you pay at the time of session and submit the receipt to your provider for reimbursement.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Wear whatever's comfortable to drive in. For the massage itself, you'll undress to your comfort level in private and get under the sheet on the table. You stay covered the whole time...... only the area I'm working on gets uncovered, then re-covered when we move on. If you'd rather stay fully clothed, that works too. We can do plenty through loose clothing.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST SESSION?

Drink some water beforehand. Try not to eat a big meal in the hour before. Fill out the intake form online if you got the link...... it saves us 15 minutes at the start of the appointment. Beyond that, just show up.

HOW LONG IS THE FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Your first session is 85 minutes and costs $155 (tax included). That extra time lets us do a proper intake, assessment, treatment, and homecare review without rushing.

HOW LONG ARE FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS?

Return sessions are 55 minutes for $125 (tax included). Longer sessions are available if you need them...... just ask when you book.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Depends on what we're working on. Some people feel a big shift after one or two visits. Chronic, long-standing pain usually needs a series of sessions and some homework between them. After your first appointment I'll give you a recommendation based on what I find...... no pressure, no upsell.

WHAT KIND OF MASSAGE DO YOU DO?

I'm trained in clinical massage, which can include Swedish (relaxation) techniques and deeper work like myofascial release, mobilization, and trigger point therapy. Every session is built around what your body actually needs that day, not a standard routine.

IS THIS GOING TO HURT?

There can be some pressure and a "good kind of sore" sensation when I'm working on a stuck spot. But it shouldn't be sharp pain or unbearable. You're in charge of the pressure...... tell me if it's too much and I'll back off.

CAN I GET A RELAXATION MASSAGE INSTEAD OF CLINICAL WORK?

Yes. Not everyone comes in with pain. If you just want to unwind and get some quality bodywork, say so when you book and we'll build the session around that.

DO YOU TREAT PREGNANT CLIENTS?

Yes, after the first trimester. The table can be adjusted for comfort and I'll make sure you're properly supported." If no: "Not at this time. I can refer you to an RMT in the area who specializes in prenatal work.

WHAT IF I'M NERVOUS? I'VE NEVER HAD A MASSAGE BEFORE.

That's more common than you'd think. We'll talk through the whole process before you get on the table, you'll know exactly what to expect, and you're in control the whole time. If something doesn't feel right, you say so. That's it.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS?

Monday-Friday 10am-4pm
Booking is online and fills up a few weeks out, so plan ahead.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

I need 18 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows get charged the full session fee. Genuine emergencies and illness are exceptions...... just text me at 902-709-0311 as soon as you know.

HOW CAN I PAY?

Cash, cheque, or e-transfer at the time of your appointment. Card payments aren't available yet.

CAN I BUY A GIFT CERTIFICATE FOR SOMEONE ELSE?

Yes...... gift certificates make a great present for anyone in your life who's been carrying around stress or pain. Just give me a call at 902-709-0311 and we'll get it sorted out. I can do any dollar amount or a specific session type, whatever works for what you have in mind.

What I help with

Most people who come to me have been dealing with their pain for months...... sometimes years. Here's some of what walks through my door:

  • Lower back pain that flares up when you bend, lift, or sit too long
  • Sciatica that shoots down the leg and makes it hard to sleep
  • Neck and shoulder tension from years at a desk, behind the wheel, or out on the water
  • Tension headaches that start at the base of your skull and wrap around
  • Frozen shoulder that won't let you reach up or behind you anymore
  • TMJ and jaw pain from clenching, grinding, or stress you didn't even know you were carrying
  • Plantar fasciitis that makes the first steps out of bed brutal
  • Hip and knee pain from old injuries, arthritis, or just years of wear
  • Whiplash and post-accident pain that lingers long after the car got fixed
  • Repetitive strain from work...... whether that's fishing, framing, hairdressing, typing, or anything you do over and over
  • Sports injuries that mostly healed but never quite came back to 100%
  • Posture pain from working from home, hunching over a phone, or driving long hours

If you don't see your thing on the list, send me a message. Chances are good I can help. And if I can't, I'll point you toward someone who can.
